Peacemakers

Launched in the summer of 2012, the Quaker Peacemakers Archive Project aims to record the peacemaking stories of Friends active in Illinois Yearly Meeting, asking queries such as: “Do you think of yourself as a peacemaker?” and “What does peacemaking look like in your life?”

Each profile includes a photograph, basic information about the Friend, and personal reflections provided by the participant. Meeting membership will be listed when applicable; formal membership is not required for participation in this project.

The committee is excited to have launched this project in order to compile and preserve an oral history of Friends whose contributions to peace building offer wonderful opportunities for reflection. As Friends tell their stories in their own words, these recordings will capture and preserve unique and inspired personal acts and thoughts which enrich our Yearly Meeting. Starting with inaugural tapings during the Annual Sessions, the committee schedules tapings throughout the year and continues to refine the interview format while evaluating possible archive destinations in addition to this blog.
